About
Artémed, a non-profit association under the French law of 1901, was founded in Paris in 2001.
Artémed sets out to develop cultural relations across the Mediterranean, in both directions.
Geography and history have shaped these countries, each with its own particular character yet sharing many cultural traits.
An art of living and ways of thinking spread along these shores, shaping ways of life founded on conviviality and human relationships, with respect for the diversity and particularities of their inhabitants.
From north to south, from east to west, exchanges have never ceased, constantly nourishing artistic production on every side and enriching cultures of every kind.
Artémed works to facilitate and develop the circulation of people and ideas between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
Moving beyond the rut of the East–West duel, all too often relayed by today’s media, a project is taking shape to recognise the relationships built by actors from these regions, who also share the peaceful resolution of conflicts as their horizon.
For Artémed, the Mediterranean is a place to renew ties that are sometimes obscured by obscurantism and insularity, by recognising a diversity of artistic practices. The association presents Mediterranean artists – Lebanese artists in particular – in France, and European artists in Lebanon.
The association seeks to develop artist residencies in these two countries. The aim is to take artists out of their comfort zones by letting them experience new environments that awaken their creativity, in order to spark the public’s interest and introduce visitors to original works and approaches.
